About CareSpark PDF Print E-mail

CareSpark was formed as a regional non-profit organization in 2005 and evolved from a grassroots community coalition of healthcare, business and community leaders. Our mission is to improve the health of the region through the collaborative use of health information for the residents of east Tennessee and southwest Virginia.

In order to accomplish our mission, CareSpark has developed a system that allows the secure exchange of health information among hospitals, physicians, public health departments, labs, pharmacies and health insurers serving patients and consumers in our region. Operational since November 2008, CareSpark's network currently serves over 375,000 patients and 250 clinicians.

CareSpark is presently working with healthcare organizations in the Knoxville, Tennessee and Danville, Virginia regions to engage healthcare, business and community leaders who are interested in leveraging CareSpark's system to advance their local community efforts and goals.

CareSpark has alligned its regional efforts with state-level initiatives in Tennessee and Virginia and federal initiatives such as the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN) since 2006. CareSpark's NHIN gateway will enable exchange of information between local participants and federal agencies such as the Veteran's Administration and Social Security Administration, as well as with similar networks in other regions of our states and nation.
