How Does CareSpark Help Patients? 1. CareSpark is convenient. Participation in CareSpark's health information exchange enables health records to be viewed quickly and easily. Healthcare professionals who participate in CareSpark are better able to coordinate care with other authorized entities - saving time and money for both patient and doctor. 3. CareSpark protects privacy. Patients have more ability to control access to their information. Although the personal information belongs to the patient, the healthcare organization which creates the record is legally responsible for access and use of the information for the purposes of treatment, payment or operations. Healthcare organizations which participate in CareSpark must inform the patient that their information may be shared electronically, after which the patient either gives express written or verbal consent (actively enrolling in CareSpark) or by not prohibiting the provider from electronic sharing of the record (passively enrolling in CareSpark). Patients who prefer not to have their information shared electronically through CareSpark have the right to notify their provider and disenroll from participation in CareSpark.
While participation in CareSpark can help improve the care patients receive, participation is voluntary and patients can withdraw consent to share their records at any time. Check with your healthcare providers to see if they participate, and let them know of your desire for your records to be shared (or not).
